Grid Computing - An Overview

Grid computing is type of computing in which multiple computer resources are combined over the internet to form a grid. with the help of grid computing, we can solve those problems that can not be solved easily by conventional computer. This type of computing is generally used to solve scientific problems which takes large amount of time for execution.

Grid computing is very popular due to following reasons:
1.   Cost effective use of computer resources over the internet.
2.   To solve those problems that requires high computing power.

The idea of grid computing is first proposed by Carl Kesselman, Steve Tuecke and Ian Foster in 1990s. They developed Globus Toolkit Standard in which grid, for data processing, data storage management and intensive computation management, are used.
In other words, it is a type of distributed computing in which multiple computer resources are connected in parallel  to solve computational problems.

Security issues in Grid Computing :

  • Authentication and authorization
  • Scheduling of different jobs
  • Execution of different jobs without any problem
  • Data access and management
  • Fabric management
  • Information and monitoring
